Ever walked into a bouldering gym, looked at the grade of a climb, and thought, Wow, that looks fun! — only to be completely shut down by how tough it actually was? We get it. Over time, we noticed that our grading system was making things feel harder than they needed to be, leaving some climbers feeling defeated rather than stoked.
So, we listened. And we’ve made a big change to improve your climbing experience.
Introducing the B Grading System
We’ve officially stepped away from the International V Grading System and created our very own B Grading System — a simpler, more intuitive way to measure your progress and enjoy every session.
What’s Different?
✅ Only 7 Grades (Instead of 12) – Making it easier to track your progress
✅ More Flexibility – With the V Grading System, boulders had to fit rigidly into a single grade, which often led to disagreements about the grade. It also discouraged people from trying harder boulders. Our B Grading System introduces a band within each grade, meaning you’ll experience a smoother progression and feel more encouraged to push your limits. Now, you might attempt boulders you wouldn’t have before, knowing they’re within reach.
✅ More Consistency – If you climb at other gyms, your skill level should now translate more accurately when climbing at Bould Move
Who Benefits?
Short answer? Everyone.
- New Climbers: Our new system makes it less intimidating to start and more rewarding to progress.
- Returning Climbers: If you ever felt the grades were too tough, this is your chance for a fresh start.
- Experienced Climbers: Love a challenge? Our top two grades still feature complex, technical boulders to test your skills.
Whether you’re new to bouldering or a seasoned climber, this change is designed to make your sessions more fun, less frustrating, and way more rewarding.
Come Give It a Go!
Our new grading system is live now, and we’d love for you to try it out. If you’ve climbed at Bould Move before but found it tough, we invite you back to experience the difference.
Stay Bould.
