Finally, trainers in the fitness industry are starting to get that women are not just little men and as a result, our understanding of the impact that different musculoskeletal systems, hormones and different stages of life have on women’s training has gotten significantly more refined.

This means that programming training for women needs to be more adaptable to individual needs and performance goals and one of the biggest factors to be aware of is the menstrual cycle.

The menstrual cycle is made up of four stages; understanding these stages and their effects can help women better support their bodies and adapt their training throughout.
